Clinical Evaluations

I do evaluations for alcohol, drugs, and anger management. These are face-to-face or telehealth sessions and generally take 20 to 30 minutes. I do them on the weekdays between the hours of 10 AM and 8 PM. Appointments are also available on Saturdays between 10 AM and 5 PM. The purpose of an assessment is to determine if someone has a drug or alcohol or anger problem and what to do about it, if anything. This costs $150 cash or $200 credit card. Some evaluations and consultations can be done via video conferencing.

Interventions

When someone you care about has an alcohol or drug problem, don’t waste time. Let me help. There are dozens of things that can be done and each situation is different. The interventions you see on TV are not usually the best way to go. I call them the SWAT team approach because you gather an overwhelming force and carry the person off to a pre-determined treatment program.

This approach has major flaws and frequently results in paying tens of thousands of dollars to private hospitals when it isn’t necessarily the best treatment modality. There are dozens of very effective ways of getting someone to accept treatment that don’t involve a SWAT team. What I do most of the time I call the horse-whisperer approach. But there are many things that can be done; some can be done behind the scenes, so the alcoholic never knows that anyone was involved. This costs $120 per hour.

Marital Counseling

This is one of my favorite things to do. Most couples wait too long to get outside help. Most marital problems are not that different from other couple’s challenges and may not be too hard to ease quickly. I work fast and like to give couples homework between sessions.

Pre-Marital Counseling

I use an online testing service to give us a broad report of how two individuals are similar and different. The goal is to affirm your strengths and name your differences, so the differences can be planned for and not cause so much discord later. The test itself costs $30 and the time reviewing it costs $120 an hour. It usually takes two hours to cover the test results and plan for managing the differences. It would be best to do this pre-engagement, but the sooner the better.
